DELETE ARCHIVELOG USING RMAN ON ORACLE

RMAN is a recovery tool given by Oracle Corporation that is in built feature in oracle, this tool is one the greatest tool to recover database from any stage if you have its all logs.

Steps to delete archived log in Oracle

First go to CMD (Command Line) and set oracle SID using command “set ORACLE_SID=sid_name”.

now connect with rman using “RMAN TARGET /”

now using follwing commands as given.

LIST ARCHIVELOG ALL; — it will show you the list of all archived log.

LIST EXPIRED ARCHIVEDLOG ALL; — it will show you all expired log.

now we need to delete all expired log or just all log or logs except some days

DELETE EXPIRED ARCHIEVEDLOG ALL; — it will delete all expired log.

DELETE ARCHIEVELOG ALL; — it will delete all archived log.

if you want delete logs for some specific period then command is:-

DELETE ARCHIVELOG UNTIL TIME ‘SYSDATE -1’

DELETE EXPIRED ARCHIVElog UNTIL TIME ‘SYSDATE -1’


After performing all these steps all archive log will be cleared or deleted and if there is any issue with database then it will be automatically resolved.
